Hierarchy of Loyalties

This Week in Lifegroups - Sunday November 2, 2025

In this week’s sermon, Jimmy shared about the Hierarchy of Loyalties. These biblical truths serve as anchor points for us to help us stay anchored in Jesus and faithful in the things He has called us to.

Here are 5 truths from the message to help anchor your leadership this week:

1. You Don't Need to Be Perfect - Even Jesus' Disciples Were Doubtful Matthew 28 shows that some disciples doubted even while standing before the resurrected Lord. Yet Jesus still commissioned them with "all authority." Your group doesn't need a flawless leader - they need an honest one who points them to Jesus.

2. The Authority Isn't Yours - It's His You're not leading in your own strength or wisdom. Jesus said "All authority has been given to Me" and He shares that authority with you. You don't have to manufacture clever insights or have all the answers. Your role is to steward the authority Christ has already given you to help others encounter God. The power is in Him, not in your performance.

3. Your Identity Is Secure - You're Not Proving Anything Just as the sermon taught that we don't attach our identity to our vocation, you don't attach your identity to how well your Lifegroup goes. Whether the conversation flows easily or feels awkward, whether people share deeply or stay surface-level, your value as a leader (and as a person) remains unchanged. You're a child of God leading other children of God - that's your identity, not your performance metrics.

4. The Inward Realities Come First - For You Too The hierarchy teaches that connection to God, submission to His Word, and covenant community must be secured before we can effectively look outward. This applies to your leadership. You can't lead others into what you're not experiencing yourself. Spend time with God this week. Let His Word speak to you first. Be honest with someone about your own needs. Your personal walk with God is not separate from your leadership.

5. You're Creating Space for the Holy Spirit, Not Manufacturing Outcomes The sermon emphasized that witnesses receive "dunamis" (dynamite power) when the Holy Spirit comes upon them. The same is true for you as a leader. Your job isn't to make people have breakthroughs or force deep conversations. Your job is to create space, ask good questions, and trust the Holy Spirit to do His work. Some weeks will feel powerful, others quiet - but the Spirit is always at work, whether you see immediate results or not.

Bottom Line for Leaders: You're not the hero of your lifegroup story - Jesus is. You're an ambassador creating space for people to encounter God, His Word, and authentic community. Lead with humility, depend on His authority and power, and rest in your identity as His beloved child. That's more than enough.
