Organizing Discipleship Groups through Lifegroup

What are Discipleship Relationships?

Life-on-Life Discipleship relationships are intentional relationships that are focused on growing as lifelong, obedient followers of Jesus who in turn help others to do the same. Lifegroups are one of the main environments in which we build discipleship relationships at Antioch.

Organizing Discipleship Groups through Lifegroup:

  1. Leading Out- Creating a community of discipleship relationships in Lifegroup is one of your main responsibilities and contributions as a Lifegroup Leader. Be intentional in leading out in this.

  2. Develop a plan- There are two main types of discipleship relationships: peer to peer and mentoring. Peer to peer involves a group 3-5 people of the same gender and similar spiritual maturity, who are commit to meeting together to sharpen one another in their relationship with Jesus. Mentoring is where a more mature believer mentors a newer believer in their walk with Jesus. Work with your section leader and your Lifegroup leadership team to decide which type of discipleship relationships are best for your season of Lifegroup.

  3. Kick Off- We recommend starting or restarting these relationships in October, February and June of each year. This helps keep people fresh, inspired and moving forward together. It is great if people want to be in a consistent discipleship relationship, or if you want to mix up the groups as seasons change.

  4. Content- We recommend using DiscipleshipLessons.com for content for the discipleship groups to help everyone Look Up, Look In, and Look Out.

  5. Goals- A strong Lifegroup will have at least two mens discipleship groups and two womens discipleship groups in it. This prepares the Lifegroup for planting a new group in the future. Our goal is that everyone would both be a disciple and be a part of making disciples.
